Soil Geochemical Characteristics and Ore-Prospecting Potential Analysis of the Fuquanshan Tungsten Mining Area, Northeastern Jiangxi

Abstract: The Fuquanshan Tungsten Mining Area is situated within the northeastern segment of the Qin-Hang Suture Zone, northwest of the NE Jiangxi Deep Fault Zone. The region hosts several large-scale metal deposits, such as the Dexing Porphyry Copper Deposit, the Yinshan Lead-Zinc Deposit, and the Jinshan Gold Deposit, indicating highly favorable metallogenic conditions. To investigate the characteristics of the ore bodies and mineralization and achieve a breakthrough in prospecting, a 1∶10 000 soil geochemical survey was conducted in conjunction with geological mapping. The analysis of 13 elements (Au, As, Sb, Cu, Pb, Zn, Ag, W, Sn, Bi, Mo, Be, F) revealed that W, Bi, Cu, and Au exhibit large anomaly scales, high intensities, and distinct concentric zoning. R-mode cluster analysis and R-mode factor analysis were performed on the elemental data using Geochem software, extracting three elemental associations: Cu-W-Bi-Be-Sn, Ag-Zn-Pb-Sb, and Au-As. Based on single-element anomaly maps, composite anomaly maps, and the geological context, two prospecting target areas were delineated. Target Area I is favorable for medium-high temperature copper-tungsten mineralization, while Target Area II shows potential for low-temperature silver-lead-zinc mineralization. Trenching and drilling in Target Area I led to the discovery of three tungsten-copper ore bodies. The main ore body, V1, occurs as a vein within the skarn that developed along the interlayer detachment structure between the sericite phyllite of the Neoproterozoic Niutouling Formation and the limestone of the Upper Carboniferous Huanglong Formation. It extends 1 637 meters along strike and 350 meters down-dip. The average thickness of the ore body is 2.33 meters, with an average grade of 0.26 % Cu and 0.13 % WO3. This discovery demonstrates the effectiveness of soil geochemical surveys for exploring tungsten polymetallic deposits in the region and provides a theoretical basis for further prospecting of W, Cu, Pb, Zn, and other polymetallic resources.
